The Challenge

The original website lacked visual hierarchy, consistency, and mobile responsiveness. Information was buried in dense text blocks, making it difficult for non-Japanese speakers to navigate or take action.

The business problem: the company targets affluent international travelers who expect a high-end digital experience. The existing website was undermining brand positioning and making it harder to convert inquiries into bookings.

Key Decisions

Decision 01

Visual storytelling over text-heavy descriptions

After researching premium tourism competitors and affluent traveler expectations, I replaced dense paragraphs with large editorial photography and concise, evocative copywriting. Each experience page became a visual narrative — showing rather than telling.

Decision 02

Bilingual architecture from the ground up

Rather than treating English as an afterthought, I designed the IA to work equally well in both languages. Navigation, CTAs, and content hierarchy were planned bilingually from the wireframe stage — ensuring non-Japanese speakers had a first-class experience.

Decision 03

Unified brand system across digital and print

I developed a visual system — typography, color, photographic treatment, and layout grid — that worked consistently across website and booklet. This allowed both mediums to reinforce each other rather than feeling like separate brands.

The Solution

The redesigned platform emphasizes visual storytelling with clean, intuitive navigation meeting bespoke traveler expectations. The bilingual site features full-bleed photography, streamlined inquiry flows, and a refined visual identity.

Alongside the website, I designed a partner booklet for global distribution and produce ongoing social media content for Instagram and Facebook across 5 distinct business verticals.

The redesign transformed a text-heavy, single-language site into a visually compelling, bilingual platform. The unified visual system now serves as the foundation for all company communications.

Reflection

What I learned: Working as the sole designer taught me to own the entire visual output pipeline — from strategy and UX to motion graphics and social media. Integrating AI tools (Midjourney for exploration, Claude for copywriting) was essential to maintaining quality across this breadth without sacrificing speed.
